SUV Collides with School Bus in Fresno County

October 17, 2011- A school bus and SUV crash sends four people to the hospital Monday morning in Fresno County, at the intersection of Grantland Avenue and McKinley Avenue. The accident happened at about 8:30 AM.

Neighbors in that area said that this intersection has been a problem spot for years. With accidents occurring about once a month.

The intersection has a two way stop on a rural county road. The driver of an GMC SUV ran a stop sign while northbound on Grantland Ave. At the same time a Central Unified school bus was headed west on McKinley Ave. The bus was taking nine students to Roosevelt and Harvest elementary schools.

The GMC driver slammed into the left front end of the bus. The impact caused the vehicle to swing back around and hit it for a second time at the center of the driver’s side of the bus.

Two students and the driver of both vehicles suffered minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals to be treated.
