DUI Accident Kills One Person in Bakersfield

December 3, 2011- An alleged drunk driver is to blame for a crash that happened Saturday morning, at about 9 AM, in Bakersfield.

Leon Jones and his passenger Billy Ray Willis Jr., were headed eastbound on Highway 178. Jones lost control of the vehicle and ran his car off the Oswell Street off-ramp. The car crashed down an embankment through some bushes, a chain link fence, and into an empty used-car parking lot, where it slammed into a metal sign post.

Both Jones, and Willis Jr. were pinned inside the car until fire crews came and cut them out.

Willis was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Jones suffered major injuries and was taken to the hospital.

He faces felony charges of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
