Teenager Killed in Off-Road Truck Accident in Kern County

April 11, 2014- One Bakersfield teen died in a collision in Kern County, Friday evening.  The accident occurred at about 6:30 PM.

The driver of a 2005 Chevy Silverado, Chase Sons-Thomas, 18 years old, was driving his vehicle in an off-road area south of Round Mountain Road, and east of Amaya Court.  The driver lost control of the pickup truck while making a left turn.

The vehicle rolled onto its side.  Stephen Chambers, 17 years old, who was riding in the bed of the truck, was killed.

5 other people, including the driver, Sons-Thomas, were hurt, with injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

The California Highway Patrol reported that Chambers, and one of the other passengers were riding in the bed of the Chevy without seat belts, or other safety equipment.
