Interstate 5 Automobile Collision in Kern County

August 18, 2014- A Kern County multi-vehicle collision was caused by a DUI driver, on Monday.  The car accident took place south of Bakersfield, on Interstate 5.

David Gomez, was driving while intoxicated, according to the California Highway Patrol, on I-5 South.  As he approached Grapevine Road, he swerved to the left over all the lanes of the freeway.

That action caused a three vehicle pileup.  Gomez's car and an SUV overturned, and both came to rest on their roofs.

After the crash Gomez attempted to flee the scene on foot.  He was later found, and arrested at a Bakersfield hospital, after sustaining moderate injuries in the accident.

Four other people involved in the collision all suffered minor to moderate injuries.
