DUI Accident Ends in Fatality on Wilson Road in Bakersfield

September 7, 2014- An SUV accident ends in fatality, in Kern County, after the vehicle hit a woman in a wheelchair.  The car collision happened in Bakersfield, on Sunday evening.

Renold Elder, 63 years old, was driving a grey Sport Utility Vehicle in Wilson Road area, near Wilson Towers.  Maria Luquin, 67 years old, was in her motorized wheelchair in the same Wilson Rd. vicinity.

Elder was seen driving erratically in a parking lot.  It is reported that he hit several parked cars, and then hit Luquin.  The SUV pushed the wheelchair into a cinder block wall, trapping the woman.

Luquin suffered major injuries, and was taken to the hospital where she later died.

Elder was arrested for DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
