Hit and Run Vehicle Accident near Delano on Highway 43, Ends in Fatality

On Sunday, December 28, 2014, a hit and run collision ends fatally in Tulare County.  The head-on car accident caused by a drunk driver, occurred near Delano, at about 2:25 AM.

Otilia Pineda, 22 years old, of Allensworth, was driving a 2003 GMC truck, north on Highway 43, northwest of Delano.  The pickup veered into the southbound lane of the highway, into oncoming traffic.

A man, in his 50's, was traveling in a 1995 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight Royale in the southbound lane, when the GMC came towards it.  The Oldsmobile swerved onto the right shoulder, but couldn't avoid the collision.  The two vehicle hit head-on, just south of Avenue 16.

The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Pineda fled the scene of the accident, and was later found at her house.  She was arrested for driving while intoxicated and other charges.  She had one prior DUI and was on probation when the collision happened.
