Fatal Fog-Related Multi-Vehicle Accident in Fresno County, on Highway 41

January 28, 2015- A Foster Farms poultry truck was involved in a multiple vehicle accident on Highway 41.  The Fresno County big rig collision happened on Wednesday, at approximately 3 AM.

A semi truck carrying chickens was on the shoulder of the northbound freeway on Highway 41, near Central Avenue.  The tractor-trailer was parked and the driver, who was from Livingston, was out of the cab at the side of the road.

A tanker truck, driven by Brandon Russell, of Visalia, was headed north on the highway, driving through dense fog, when the vehicle hit the parked semi.  The impact sent the Foster Farms rig across the freeway, and the driver of the truck was pinned under the front driver-side tire for about 40 minutes.

The poultry truck driver was seriously injured and rushed to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno.  He later died from his wounds, in the hospital.

Following the initial collision, two other cars crashed into the wreckage.  First, a pickup truck, driven by Mario Moreno, of Riverdale.  Then another poultry truck from Foster Farms, driven by Hoscar Rodriguez, of Fresno.

Brandon Russell, the tanker truck driver, suffered major injuries, and Moreno, minor injuries.  They were also taken to the Fresno hospital for treatment.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the accident was fog-related.
