Fatal Hit and Run Vehicle Accident in Merced County on Highway 99

February 16, 2015- A fatal hit and run vehicle accident kills two people on Highway 99 North, on Monday.  The automobile collision happened near Atwater, in Merced County, at approximately 9 AM.

A white or silver sedan was traveling in the slow lane on northbound Highway 99, near Westside Boulevard.  The car veered into the center lane and ran into a Nissan Xterra, driven by Maninder Singh, 22, of Laton.

The Xterra overturned onto the grass center divide of the freeway, and into the southbound lanes.  Two passengers in the backseat of the vehicle; Javir Kaur, 45, and Nirbhai Singh, 53, were ejected in the crash.

Kaur was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.  Kewal Singh, 72 years old, was the front passenger in the Nissan.  He also died at the scene.

Nirbhai Singh was medi-flighted to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, having suffered serious injuries.  Maninder Singh also sustained major injuries and was taken to Memorial Medical Center, in Modesto.

All four people in the Xterra were family members from the town of Laton, in Fresno County.

The silver sedan continued driving north after the crash with Singh.  It then hit a second vehicle, a Nissan Versa, driven by Sedra Nadine Sigarroa, of Merced.  That vehicle swerved into the south lanes of the highway, but did not roll over.

Sigarroa was not hurt.

The hit and run driver is still at large, at this time.  Authorities are on the lookout for him or her.

The police report may take several weeks to prepare—in the meantime we can probably obtain a cover sheet of the accident report for the family of the deceased.  Please give Mr. Rozier a call at 559-713-0159 or www.nelsonrozier.com.
