Suspect Arrested in Police Officer's Death After Car Crash in Bakersfield

Update on the patrol car accident that killed a Bakersfield Police Officer on Friday, June 26, 2015.  The suspect that Officer Nelson was in pursuit of has been arrested.  The vehicle collision took place at approximately 2:45 PM.

The suspect has been identified as Julian Hernandez, 32 years old.

Officer David Nelson of the Bakersfield Police Department, was pursuing Hernandez, who was driving a silver Hyundai, down Panorama Drive.  For an unknown reason the officer lost control of his vehicle at the intersection of Panorama, and Mt. Vernon Avenue.

Emergency personnel found him pinned inside the automobile.  Officer Nelson was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Hernandez was arrested Saturday, June 27th, at about 11:30 PM.
